Making a New Sim - New-Sim Wizard

Final wording WIP

  1. Open SpaceCRAFT.exe
  2. Design & Tools
  3. New Sim Wizard

You are now in the New-Sim Wizard interface.

The visuals on-screen are a live view of the solar system, and you are picking a starting position for your simulation. You can right-click-and-hold to adjust your view relative to the body surface, and you can scroll to adjust zoom. In some situations, the body you select may appear very small and hidden under the body coordinate axes indicator in the center of the screen.

On the left is a selection screen with all of the celestial bodies that exist in Space Teams. You can scroll down the list of bodies, and then scroll within each body's list of moons. Below the body selection, there is a numerical placement interface which allows selecting precise placement in lat-lon-altitude, altitude above "sea level", Cartesian coordinates, or Keplerian elements.

If you click in the simulated view, a ray is casted where you clicked and your starting position will move to the intersection point. Some mesh-based bodies such as Eros do not support this method.

On the right side of the screen, you can select from a list of presets for creating a new sim. The most basic one is Explore, which has you inhabit a spectator role at the starting point. Rover Pilot has you start in a physics-based driveable rover, which you can control with your arrow keys. More presets will be implemented over time, and they may be dynamically reconfigured based on the chosen body.

Once you select a preset, you can Run Sim.

Once in Run Sim, you have two options:

  1. Experience the preset sim as default
  2. Open the sim in the editor and start making changes before the sim starts

If you experience the default preset, you can save your sim after it has started, but depending on the preset, this may cause a loaded sim to not work as expected.

If you open directly in the sim editor, you have the opportunity to make more changes and save the sim before any sim functionality has occurred, so your customized saved sim is likely to work as expected.
