Each skill is an npm workspace, so its package.json owns its version and packaging.
The 19 Webex Connect skills are individual packages under skills/. The
webex-connect-ai plugin recipe selects them by package name in
plugins/webex-connect-ai/plugin.json. npm run plugin:build assembles the
selected skills with plugin-specific commands, rules, manifests, and branding
into the committed plugin-packages/ directory. Marketplace catalogs point to
that self-contained package, so installs from a GitHub clone work without a
local build step. CI rebuilds it and checks that the committed package matches
the source recipe and skills. The package lock records linked skill versions.
The generated plugin catalog lists the plugin and its skill links.
Requires Node.js 20 or newer.
npm run validate # validate skills and the plugin package
npm test # test all skills
npm test --workspace skills/<name> # test one skill
node scripts/package-skill.mjs <name> --dry-run # preview a package
npm run plugin:build # assemble installable plugin packages
npm run catalog:generate # refresh PLUGINS.md and catalog.jsonSee CONTRIBUTING.md for adding plugins and keeping their manifests, marketplaces, and catalog in sync.
To refresh the committed package after changing a plugin or linked skill, run
npm run plugin:build, then install the Codex plugin from this repository with:
codex plugin marketplace add .
codex plugin add webex-connect-ai@webex-skillsVerify skills runs on every push and pull request. It detects changed skills and validates, tests, and dry-run packs only those. Plugin changes also run the plugin package validator. Changes to shared skill tooling verify all skills. Use the verified check for branch protection.
Versions are X.Y.Z (stable) or X.Y.Z-beta.N (pre-release). Stable releases require a changelog entry; pre-releases do not.
Stable release
- Locally, ask your agent to use the project skill skill-changelog (e.g. "use skill-changelog to prepare the webex-api-knowledge 1.0.0 changelog"). It collects commits since the last stable tag, drafts the entry for your review, bumps
versionif needed, pushes achangelog/<name>-<version>branch, and opens a PR. - Review, edit if needed, and merge the PR.
- Run Actions > Package skill release and pick the skill. The workflow fails if the stable version has no entry in
skills/<name>/release/CHANGELOG.md.
Pre-release: bump version to X.Y.Z-beta.N, merge, and run Package skill release.
The workflow validates, tests, packs skills/<name>/release/<name>-<version>.tgz and <name>-latest.tgz, and commits them to the default branch. Stable releases are also tagged <name>@<version>; these tags mark where the next changelog starts. Existing versions are never overwritten. The changelog is not shipped inside the package.
A plugin version identifies the complete bundle: plugin metadata, commands,
rules, assets, and the checked-in source of every linked skill at the release
commit. Bump the plugin version whenever bundled content or a linked skill's
package version changes. The generated plugin-lock.json records selected
skill versions, and CI requires a version bump when bundled inputs change.
For a release, update plugins/<name>/release/CHANGELOG.md for stable
versions, update the plugin version consistently in its manifests and
marketplace catalogs, run npm run plugin:build, and commit the generated
plugin-packages/<name>/ directory. Then run Actions > Package plugin
release on the default branch. It archives the committed bundle as
plugins/<name>/release/<name>-<version>.tgz and <name>-latest.tgz, and tags
the release as <name>@<version>. Released version archives are immutable.
- Create
skills/<name>/following the layout above, includingrelease/CHANGELOG.md; the folder name must equal thenameinSKILL.md. - Add
<name>to theskilloptions in .github/workflows/publish.yml. - Add a row to the table above and run
npm run validate.
