Sandstem Font Family

Sandstem is a rounded sans serif typeface based on Quicksand. It keeps the soft geometric feel of the original family and adds a more distinct serifed uppercase I for better differentiation in text.

This is a Modified Version of Quicksand under the SIL Open Font License. Quicksand is a Reserved Font Name and is used here only for attribution to the original project.

• Renamed the modified family to Sandstem
• Added rounded horizontal serifs to the uppercase I and the shortened I contour in IJ
• Added the interpolated SemiBold instance required by Google Fonts' canonical weight instances
• Kept a dedicated caronalt outline so Google Fonts does not resolve caron accents through comma
• Added a Google Fonts package under ofl/sandstem/
• Regenerated variable and static fonts with Google Fonts-compatible component handling and generated STAT metadata

Build

Build the release fonts from the Glyphs source:

python3 -m venv venv
. venv/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt
cd sources
./build.sh

The build writes the variable font to fonts/variable/ and static TTFs to fonts/ttf/. To refresh the Google Fonts test package after building:

cp "fonts/variable/Sandstem[wght].ttf" "ofl/sandstem/Sandstem[wght].ttf"

Google Fonts package

The ofl/sandstem/ directory mirrors the package layout used for a google/fonts pull request. Its METADATA.pb points to https://github.com/timcogan/sandstem on the master branch.
