Goal: Android App to show/sort/find csv database content in a table view.

Why does every release has differnt Android APKs (called "flavors"): minSdkXX

  • minSdk29 is optimized for Android-10 ("Q") and later: it does not run on Android-9 and earlier.
  • minSdk24 is optimized for Android-7 ("Nougat") and later: it does not run on Android-6 and earlier.
  • minSdk23 is optimized for Android-6 ("Marshmallow") and later: it does not run on Android-5 and earlier.
  • minSdk21 is optimized for Android-5 ("Lollipop") and later; Contains a known vulnerability : it does not run on Android-4.4 and earlier.

How to use CsvViewer?

  • Inside a filemanager, click on a file that ends with ".csv".
    • In the "Open with" popup select "CsvViewer".
  • If CsvViewer is startet without a ".csv" file it shows some demo data.
  • Click a header to sort the table. (^ means sort from small to big; v sort from big to small)
  • Long click into table cell will open a context menu to filter the table by column.
  • Clicking on the search button "🔍" activates the "row contains search"
    • Example "🔍 2001 SuSI" will show all rows that contain (case insentive) in any column "2001" and "susi".

Features

  • Automatic csv format detection,
    • Supported delimiters: ;,:| or
    • Supported optional Quoting: "'
    • First csv row is used as header
  • automatic column type detection.
    • Date/Time if format is "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss" (Example "2026-12-24 17:59:55")
    • Yes/No (aka Boolean) if there are only 2 different values.
    • Numbers (Integer/Long)
    • (not implemented yet): Decimal number (Double)
    • String if no other type is detected.

Requirements

  • MinSdk=21=LOLLIPOP (or later)
  • enough memory to keep the complete csv file in memory

How to Build and install

  • flavor: minApi29|minApi24|minApi23|minApi21
  • buildType: release|debug

to install on connected device call

  • gradlew.bat csv_viewer_android_app:install${flavor}${buildType}
  • Example: gradlew.bat csv_viewer_android_app:installMinApi21Debug

to build all release files

  • gradlew.bat csv_viewer_android_app:assembleRelease
  • will create these filese (for different Android-Versions)
    • ...\CsvViewer\csv_viewer_android_app\build\outputs\apk\minApi21\release\csv_viewer_android_app-minApi21-release-unsigned.apk
    • ...\CsvViewer\csv_viewer_android_app\build\outputs\apk\minApi23\release\csv_viewer_android_app-minApi23-release-unsigned.apk
    • ...\CsvViewer\csv_viewer_android_app\build\outputs\apk\minApi24\release\csv_viewer_android_app-minApi24-release-unsigned.apk
    • ...\CsvViewer\csv_viewer_android_app\build\outputs\apk\minApi29\release\csv_viewer_android_app-minApi29-release-unsigned.apk
