Why wordwrap is set to 80 by default, what is the thought proces behind this? It just doesnt make any sense, just imagine someone who wants to quickly get started to convert html to text will never expect wordwrap. they will think its a bug and abandon it. especially knowing this repo last updated 3 years ago

At first I'm confuse why the converted html have some /n everywhere randomly, after hours I just found #235 and solved it.

For me this is just how it was when I picked up the project, and there was no strong enough reason to change various defaults. It comes with a cost for every user who just blindly updates dependency versions, so caution is needed.

Perfect time to change a default is as a part of larger change that affects how that option is configured or how it works. Wordwrap option wasn't a part of any significant changes.

I agree that less arbitrary default is better and will think how to switch to it safely for everyone.

Late to the party, but I just stumbled upon this right after reading some documentation, and thought I'd share what I found:

That default of 80 characters is probably because that's (roughly) in RFC5322, which are essentially the rules on how to send emails; https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc5322.txt

Relevant passage:

There are two limits that this specification places on the number of
characters in a line. Each line of characters MUST be no more than
998 characters, and SHOULD be no more than 78 characters, excluding
the CRLF.

I assume that "supply a plaintext fallback for HTML emails" is the main use-case of this package, making a default wrap of (78 characters + CR + LF = ) 80 a logical choice. Either that, or it's one heck of a coincidence. =)

From the old version of Readme (tag 5.1.1):

It was mainly designed to transform HTML E-Mail templates to a text representation.

So, it's not a coincidence.

But I think 80 characters width was very common, not specific to email
