Refraction OBS for Linux

A re-creation of Refraction OBS, which runs self-contained on Linux.

• Starts the replay buffer automatically.
• Runs in the background.
• Shows precise, universal timestamps and instance information.

Installation instructions

1. Extract the source archive (zip/tar.gz) somewhere on your disk, probably in your home. This is where Refraction OBS will live, and where your recordings will be by default.
2. Open a terminal in the Refraction OBS Linux directory and run ./install.sh. This script will download a known-working OBS Studio AppImage, mark it as executable, copy the .desktop file to somewhere that your app launcher can see it (~/.local/share/applications), and point paths inside it to Refraction OBS.

3. Open Refraction OBS from your launcher and customize as desired.

Notes

• For the time being, "No system stats available yet" will appear as a placeholder. You can hide that source for now, but when you update Refraction OBS (not just OBS), you should show it again.
• You can accept update prompts if you so choose, since OBS is contained to one binary and the configuration files in this distribution ship separately.
• If OBS breaks (particularly after an update), delete the OBS-Studio.AppImage in this folder and run ./install.sh again (this will install an older known-working version of OBS). If that doesn't work, run ./uninstall.sh, which will remove the files that ./install.sh would install to.
• You will need to select VRChat again each time you open Refraction OBS. If you aren't prompted, check OBS and make sure the correct input is selected.
