Bug Description
On AOD All generals & their armies Final! v2 by Twinsen, two saves from the same local skirmish behave differently:
| Save |
September 24, 2026 (UTC+8) |
Result |
00000021.sav |
19:46 |
Loads successfully |
00000022.sav |
19:48 |
Error loading game |
Both were created and loaded with the official Zero Hour 1.0.1 release on macOS. Expected: both saves resume their respective points in the match. Actual: the later save displays an error naming GeneralsZH/Save/00000022.sav.
I have seen save/load failures on some other maps as well. The exact triggering action between these two saves is unknown. I have not established whether this is specific to GeneralsX, the custom map/mods, or also occurs in the original Windows game.
Reproduction Steps
- Use GeneralsX Zero Hour 1.0.1 on macOS.
- Extract the supplied complete map folder into
~/Library/Application Support/GeneralsX/GeneralsZH/Maps/.
- Copy both supplied saves into the sibling
Save/ directory, backing up any existing files with the same names first.
- Load
00000021.sav (19:46): it loads successfully on my installation.
- Load
00000022.sav (19:48): the Error loading game dialog appears.
These steps use the working/failing pair that I will attach. I do not yet have a reliable sequence of gameplay actions to generate another failing save from scratch.
Additional Context
Environment: macOS 26.5.1, Apple M2 Max, official GeneralsX Zero Hour 1.0.1. The installed executable matches the release archive; it is no longer the earlier PR #325 custom build.
Active modifications:
- Leikeze hotkeys and indicators:
!HotkeysLeikezeZH.big, !HotkeysLeikezeIndicatorsZH.big.
- Control Bar Pro 1.2:
340_ControlBarPro2160ZH.big, 340_ControlBarProArt2160ZH.big, 340_ControlBarProData2160ZH.big, 340_ControlBarProZH.big.
- Bundled SagePatch; active configuration included in the prepared archive (60 FPS limit, camera and scroll overrides).
Base game assets originated from an older modified Windows installation, not a verified clean retail baseline. I have not tested this pair without the modifications or on retail Windows.
Attachments pending: I will edit this issue to upload save-pair-and-map.zip, load-error.png, and save-list.png. The prepared archive contains both saves, the complete map folder (.map/.tga), both screenshots, SagePatch.ini, a SHA-256 manifest and a current DXVK graphics log (GeneralsXZH_d3d9.log). The log is a diagnostic snapshot, not an established explanation for the failure.
Crash log caveat: the available ReleaseCrashInfo.txt is dated September 22, before these saves. Included in the prepared archive as STALE-2026-09-22-ReleaseCrashInfo.txt for completeness; its sleepy-update error should not be attributed to this case without further evidence. No fresh crash report for this attempt was found. An unrelated missing-library startup crash from September 23 was excluded.
Related: #239 contains earlier save/load failures, originally a base-game campaign report. This report isolates a Zero Hour 1.0.1 custom-map case with a working/failing pair; a common root cause is unconfirmed. Replay behavior will be reported separately.
