Cannot load saved games of USA Mission 5

Bug Description

I get an error when trying to open a saved game of USA Mission 5.
I can load older saved games < USA Mission 5.
Tried with Beta-14 and 15.

Reproduction Steps

Start Campaign Mission USA 5.
Save.
Exit Mission and try to load it again.

I haven't been playing the campaign lately. I'm going to start a new one and try to reproduce the save/load issue to figure out why this is happening. It will probably take a while, since I don't have much free time at the moment.

Yes, the failing save would help most. For the base Generals issue in this thread, the macOS save folder is:

~/Library/Application Support/GeneralsX/Generals/Save/

I originally gave the Zero Hour folder here, sorry about that.

Could you attach a zip of the failing .sav, the error text or screenshot, and the build that created it versus the build used to load it? If a fresh ReleaseCrashInfo.txt was written in the Generals folder above, please include that too.

If you can also try a newly created USA Mission 5 save on the current release, that would help distinguish an older-save compatibility problem from a current save/load bug. Please keep the original failing save; no retail .big files are needed.

I did a save during a skirmish and also can't open that game. So Generals Zero Hour just closes when I try to load the game. Without any errors. ZH version 1.0.0. MacOS 26, M2 Max CPU

Thanks for adding the Zero Hour case, @korniychuk. It may be separate from the original base-game USA Mission 5 report, so I don't want to assume they have the same cause.

Could you attach one of the failing skirmish .sav files, and confirm whether it was also created in 1.0.0? For Zero Hour on macOS, look in:

~/Library/Application Support/GeneralsX/GeneralsZH/Save/

If there's a fresh ReleaseCrashInfo.txt one folder above, include that too. If the game didn't create one, the save itself is still useful.

@arazmj Yes, this save was created in GeneralsX Zero Hour 1.0.0 on macOS, and I am loading it with the same version.

Attached are:

• 00000000.sav — a skirmish save on the custom map AOD – Snipe Fest Final! v2 by Twinsen.
• ReleaseCrashInfo.txt — dated September 22, generated when attempting to load the save.

The game closes without an on-screen error. The crash log reports:

Reason fatal error! sleepy update module illegal index.

Environment: macOS 26, Apple M2 Max, GeneralsX Zero Hour 1.0.0.

This installation also has Control Bar Pro 1.2 and Leikeze hotkeys with button indicators enabled. I have not yet checked whether the crash also occurs with those modifications disabled. But some other maps work, I can save them and load.

@arazmj I have another failing Zero Hour save, created today (September 22) in GeneralsX 1.0.0 and loaded with the same version.

The attached ZIP contains:

• Save/00000010.sav
• The complete custom map folder: [AOD] Defend till the End Remastered (.map and .tga)
• A screenshot of the error.

In this case, loading the save displays an “Error loading game” dialog pointing to Save/00000010.sav, rather than the silent exit I reported with the previous save.

ReleaseCrashInfo.txt has not changed since the earlier failure, so I have not included that older log in this archive.

Same setup as before: macOS 26, Apple M2 Max, GeneralsX Zero Hour 1.0.0, with Control Bar Pro 1.2 and Leikeze hotkeys/button indicators installed.
