What it does

Code Server is VS Code in the browser. This script wraps the TrueNAS community app code-server.

How it installs

The script asks one question, the login password. It has a random default, so the install screen shows the generate button, the same as Kodi's remote password. The answer goes to the app as PASSWORD. Without it, code-server makes its own password inside the container, where a HexOS user can't see it.

The rest is set by the script:

  • The home folder /home/coder is on ApplicationsPerformance at code-server/home. It is owned by apps and snapshotted before updates.
  • The port is 30145, the TrueNAS default.
  • Limits are 2 CPUs and $MEMORY(10%, 4096). The TrueNAS default memory is 4096 MB.
  • There are no hooks, no GPU and no extra mounts.

Testing

  • bun _lib/validate.ts passes with 56 scripts, 0 errors and 0 warnings.
  • I installed it on my HexOS server (TrueNAS 25.10, HexOS 2026.10.16). The app deployed and /healthz returned 200. HexOS created the home dataset owned by apps. The chosen password logged in, and a wrong one was refused.
