About The Pull Request

BIG EDIT READ AGAIN IF YOU HAVEN'T

  • Cleans up the dye color list a bit, now if a color is listed as royal it is the same color as the lord colors.
  • Cleans up tabard code a bit (removed copy paste code), changing colors is on alt click now.
  • Tabards get the 2x2 grid space that works the same as half cloaks.
  • Adds Short Surcoat, another tabard type
  • Adds bones for a helmet detailing system. Using cloth on certain helmets will add a dyable detail to them (such as a wreath or plume) usable helmets have instructions on how to add/remove on examine. (There were already a bunch of sprites for these floating in the sheet, I had to tweak a few, and didn't add all of them yet.)
  • Adds lord secondary colored gambeson, and light gambeson.
  • Adds lord colored half masks for species that require them
  • Adds Pocket Sized Tomes of Justice (1x1 all watchmen spawn with these)
  • Lowers iron and steel Jack chains integrity by one step(They should be worse than bracers)
  • All standard watchmen get iron bludgeons.
Parad

Picture taken with Lord Primary Green and Lord Secondary Yellow. Watch lieutenant center. Footman bottom left, Pikeman bottom middle, Archer bottom right. Shown helmets are ones given addable cloth detail as of now.

Below is a visual comparison to other garrison roles (red/yellow lord colors).
lineup

Class Changes

ALL
Spawn with lamptern (todo remove lampterns from watchhouse).

Watchman Footman
Str 1 >1
End 2 >1
Con 1 > 2 (Constitution as a front liner)

Town Watch Barbute > Iron Sallet (Wreathed)
Three weapon choices (they get the corresponding skill clamped to 30)
Iron Sword
Iron Mace
Militia Flail

Watchman Pikeman
Str 2>2
End 1>1
Con 2>1
Spd -1>0 (Felt painfully slow, and if we're concerned about the spear, maa Billman gets +1 speed for some reason)

Town Watch Barbute > Iron Sallet (Wreathed)

Watchman Archer
No Stat Changes

Town Watch Barbute > Iron Kettle (Wreathed)
Steel Chain Coif > Cloth Coif (guard colored) (Light AC for the dodge guy)
iron jackschains > knife sheath (bowmen often fight for belt slots, this might help them a bit, also jackschains are medium AC)
Padded Gambeson > Leather Armor (Losing the wrist armor, the gambeson is working there instead so this helps)
Shirt > the same Padded Gambeson

Watchman Lieutenant
Str 2>2
End 2>2
Con 1>2
Spd 1>0

  • Loses their iron bludgeon, spawns with a cudgel in their backpack
  • Their dagger & keyring spawn in their belt now.
  • Fixes some of the shields not spawning on weapon select
  • Flail choice gets heater instead of wood shield
  • Sword in hand with scabbard on belt, no more fighting the satchel for it's slot.
  • Added Iron Warhammer as a weapon choice (doesn't give any skill like the other options).

Elegeant Barbute > Visored Sallet (Wreathed)
Half Cloak > Jupon
Steel Jackchains > Chain
Iron Cuirass > Steel Cuirass
Iron Chain Leggings > Splint Chausses
Leather Boots > Iron Maille Boots

Edit: Bludgeons now fit in satchels.

Why It's Good For The Game

Watchmen were in a very awkward place in regard to their loadout. They had a sword, a cudgel, their chosen weapon (shield, bow, pike), and a dagger. This just felt wrong. Now they get iron cudgels instead of their sword/cudgel for a whopping 3 more force than the cudgel (club), and the comfort of using their highest combat skill. Footmen get a choice in their weapon along with having a shield.

I like watchmen looking more plain, and the short surcoat is something you can sew, and stick onto anyone to join up. It also hides differences in armor, so people can upgrade during the round while still looking like watchmen.

Stats change reasons were listed in the blocks above.

I remember a few months ago people were talking about a war-hammer watchman, well it felt right to add as an option for the LT.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the town watch barbutes for the town watch, but they would make for some awesome helmets for skeletons in the tomb.

Pocket Tome of Justice is good if we want to get people to use it, though I think the tome of justice needs a rewrite. Ingame laws are probably the best way to influence player culture however the people in charge see fit, Also it is written in ye olde English (verbose) which makes it hard to read.

Yell at me why this is unbalanced, or what needs to be changed or what not.

Now it is time to see if github makes me pull my hair out again.

Changelog

🆑
balance: Changed Watchmen & Watchmen LT Loadouts and Stats

Love this.

The barbute was made to have an excellent peripheral vision in the first place, although, don't forget the town helmets are still out there, can there something be compensate their lack of vision compared to the barbute? Dont forget them! (nasal / eye coverage for their lack of vision?)
image

You should also edit the armory in every map so they won't hold swords anymore and instead some backup bludgeons.
Also just for transparency, bludgeons have better parry stats just to keep that in mind.

AND ALSO A BIT UNRELATED, but could you change this exact comment of the bludgeons in the code?

The comment was in reference to bludgeons vs maces, so I'll specify that (swift weapon in exchange for -2/-3 force.)

I can give the old watch helmets eye coverage (they already have nose) since I'm already in the file, but if it were up to me I'd remove it from the armory, and replace it with spare barbutes. Uniformity is important for a role like this, and having spare standard helmets would be better for mid round hires, or bandits trying to disguise their selves, guess the map would need some lord colored facemasks though.

I don't trust myself to do any mapping changes because chances are I'll accidentally kill my PR.

I can't get the checks to rerun, I think it cancelled because I updated from main while it was testing the eye cover and comment commit.

Shouldn't the LT be full primary and the watchmen be full secondary?

Shouldn't the LT be full primary and the watchmen be full secondary?

The thought process was that more in-game items and tiles are colored Lord Primary than Lord Secondary. So the multiple standard watchmen would be the most common color, and the LT would be the accent color.

Also the standard watchmen aren't straight Lord Primary, they have Lord Secondary gambesons.
