cite author issue

Hi, it seems the cite author command produces a full list of author names, instead of the expected xxx et.al, can someone help?

Previously I did some preprecessing (with a programe or a script) to modify the .bib files so that only the required amount of authors were kept and "et al." is appended. I'm not sure if there is any better way.

i'm not sure if I put it clear, I mean now it prduce a full list of first names of the authors, and without et al. appended.

Oh, I get your point now. You mean in the citation place instead of the references.

I don't have any good solution for it. Personally, I always have to hardcode the name (e.g., Ren et al.~\cite[ref_id]) in the maintext.

I see, I find the following defined new command can work!

	\AtNextCite{\defcounter{maxnames}{1}\defcounter{minnames}{1}}%
	\citeauthor{#1}%
}
