Keeps closing connection

I have nodejs socket server that I connect to.
The ruby client constantly closes the connection after a minute or so and it does not reconnect automatically.

Am I supposed to send some kind of ping to keep the connection alive?

Found a workaround for this:
You can expect a ping from WebSocket server and on receiving it you can send a pong:

EventSender.ws.on :message do |msg| if msg.type == :ping ws.send("", :type => :pong) end end
