Mod Request: Horizontal mouse-wheel scroll for taskbar apps (Replacing the overflow menu)
Problem:-
When many apps are pinned or running on Windows 11, the taskbar relies on the awkward " ... " popover overflow menu. This creates unnecessary friction when switching between large sets of tools.
Core Concept:-
Instead of a popover menu when icons exceed the available taskbar width, allow the taskbar icon strip to be scrolled horizontally using the mouse wheel (or Shift + Wheel).
Functional Scope (Keeping it minimal and feasible):
. Trigger: Mouse wheel input while hovering over the taskbar apps area (
Taskbar.TaskbarFrameHost/ItemsRepeater).. Behavior: Translate the vertical wheel delta into horizontal scroll offset, smoothly gliding through pinned/running items.
. Overflow Handling: Clip the ends neatly within the taskbar bounds rather than spawning the secondary floating overflow window.
Why this is practical for Windhawk?:
This doesn't require rebuilding the shell or rendering custom icons. It leverages the existing taskbar XAML hierarchy by hooking mouse wheel events and updating the horizontal scroll position/translation of the native taskbar item container.
Behavior similar to the native scrollable dock in Ubuntu GNOME / Dash-to-Dock.
