Task Description

Create a comprehensive design document for incorporating deep research functionality into the terminal-based AI agent project.

Acceptance Criteria

• Analyze existing project designs to understand the current architecture
• Study the reference implementation from nickscamara/open-deep-research
• Create a Markdown design document that details:
  • Overview and goals of deep research
  • System architecture for deep research
  • Component interactions
  • Implementation approach
  • Error handling
  • Future extensibility

I've completed the deep research design document and saved it at designs/deep-research-design.md.

Key aspects of the design:

1. Component Structure: The design follows a modular approach with a DeepResearchTool as the entry point, supported by specialized components for coordination, analysis, search, extraction, and progress reporting.

2. Integration: The system integrates with the existing tool architecture, making it a natural extension of the current design.

3. Iterative Research Process: The system implements a depth-based approach with iterative search, extraction, and analysis phases.

4. Transparency: Progress reporting and source tracking ensure the user can follow the research process.

5. Resilience: Error handling, fallback mechanisms, and time limits make the research process robust.

The next step is to review this design for completeness and integration with the current system, which I've created a separate issue for (#67).

Additionally, I've created an implementation planning issue (#66) to track the subsequent development tasks once the design is finalized.
