Add a new setting that simply hides the “Priority Inbox” and “All Inboxes” sections

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Personally:

• I don't use the priority inbox at all, because I like to have complete control over the emails I receive (I don't like the idea of a system deciding for me what's a priority and what isn't)
• I don’t use “All Inboxes” because it makes reading emails too complicated (unless you decide to improve the visual differentiation of emails based on the sender’s email address)

... and I don’t think I’m the only one in this situation.

I’d like 2 options in “Mail Settings” that simply hides:

• Priority Inbox
• All Inboxes

Goal and advantages :

1. If the goal is simply to hide certain elements, I assume the development effort will be minimal.
2. This will have the advantage of streamlining and simplifying the UI/UX for everyone involved.

Please read our design guidelines:

Software should get out of the way. Do things automatically instead of offering configuration options. When people ask for a setting, find out what the root of the problem is and fix that instead. Also read Choosing our Preferences.

You pointed out

unless you decide to improve the visual differentiation of emails based on the sender’s email address

which is something we should rather fix.

However, I do see why customizing the sidebar in general is valuable. Mail itself offers something like this by way of favorites, and others apps do as well.

So instead of introducing settings in each app individually for each item, it might be beneficial to make all sidebars customizable and integrate the existing customization features (like favorites) into this. This way, we can be much more helpful to more users without introducing more features (and instead expanding existing ones).
