What is the purpose of this pull request?
This is a fix for #480. The escape characters should not be part of the base static part of the pattern.
Examples of problematic patterns before this changes:

The base static part of the pattern is a path in the file system. The path must not contain escape characters.
We don't have to worry about Windows support, as starting from version 3 of the package, backslashes are always considered escape characters.
