Run Python Selection/Line in Terminal doesn't work.

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes/No

• VS Code Version: 1.102.3
• OS Version: Windows 11

Steps to Reproduce:

I'm on VS Code Version 1.102.3 with Python extension downgraded to version 2025.8.0. This week, I noticed that I can no longer execute line selections in the Python terminal via my specified shortcut. Right-clicking and navigation to "Run Python > Run Selection/Line in Python Terminal" won't work either.

I have already tested downgrading VS Code as well as the Python extension to see if that solves the issue, to no avail. Manually copying code into a Python terminal does work. So does executing a Python file in terminal.

It also works to run code selections in an interactive window. Please help sort out this issue. It is a huge problem when developing.

Yes, I do! It‘s version 1.2.0.

The Python environment I‘m using to execute against has not changed and is managed via anaconda.

I have actually just noticed that it seems to be the Python Environments extension that causes the problem I have observed. Disabling the extension makes things go back to the expected behavior.

I had the exact same issue. Disabling Python Environments didn't fix the issue, but switching to the pre-release version did.

I'm also experiencing issues with the run selection in terminal feature. The code not running at all is possibly related to this: microsoft/vscode-python#25922

The stated reasoning for turning off the modern PyREPL in the Python extension is that it causes issues with the integrated terminal setting.

So I tried disabling the integrated terminal, and using the modern PyREPL and it causes the following behavior:

• Code is pasted to the REPL correctly, but is not executed. Instead, the REPL displays .... You need to go to the terminal tab, and hit enter to run the code.

Result:

With integrated terminal disabled, and the PYTHON_BASIC_REPL environment variable set to 1 via the terminal.integrated.env.osx setting, running code selection results in Syntax errors.

• Select print("hello world") in a Python file, right click, Run Python -> Run Selection/Line in Python Terminal

Result:
