If I understand correctly, you are trying to create a standby server in the cluster, and an error occurs at the stage of trying to connect to primary, because the password of the pgautofailover_replicator user is not set.

To solve this problem, try writing the pgautofailover_replicator user and his password in your .pgpass file on standby (it's better to add it to .pgpass on primary too, for the future), and then try adding standby server to the cluster. That should help.
