[BUG] Docker compose v5 pull breaks terminal (makes cursor vanish)

Description

Since upgrading to the new docker compose v5, whenever I run a docker compose pull and it pulls images, it seems to remove the terminal cursor which never comes back until restarting the terminal. Previous versions never did this

Seems to be consistent on multiple servers (both Ubuntu and Debian), remote connecting with Putty over SSH

Additionally, the output text appears to do something weird with the cursor text when combined with echos in a script and makes a mess of the final output (also not the case on v2). If my script echos after successive pulls, the echo overwrites the previous docker compose line

Run docker compose pull and cursor will vanish

I'm having the same issue. Docker is on a server running Debian 13. I'm SSHing into the server with a client running Ubuntu 22.04.

Same issue, but I'm running docker compose logs -f.

@scotttag @bvarick Can execute reset or tput cnorm to temporarily restore the cursor.

Same here with Docker Compose on Ubuntu 22.04 server and SSH connection from PuTTY on Windows. Occurs only sometimes.

Same here (I think) but locally on Ubuntu 22.04.5 in GNOME Terminal 3.44.0.

Edit: Downgraded to the previous major via:

mkdir -p ~/.docker/cli-plugins && curl -SL "https://github.com/docker/compose/releases/download/v2.40.3/docker-compose-linux-x86_64" -o ~/.docker/cli-plugins/docker-compose && chmod +x ~/.docker/cli-plugins/docker-compose

This is for linux-x86_64, adapt accordingly.

@famod I’d recommend using the package manager for a clean downgrade, e.g.:

sudo apt install docker-compose-plugin=2.6.0~ubuntu-jammy

I made compose v5 more "usable" by fixing the prompt in my .bashrc like this

export PROMPT_COMMAND='printf "\e[?25h"; stty sane 2>/dev/null'

@famod I’d recommend using the package manager for a clean downgrade, e.g.:

sudo apt install docker-compose-plugin=2.6.0~ubuntu-jammy

I've done this on my machines along with "apt hold docker-compose-plugin" to lock it on the old version, works for both Debian and Ubuntu package managers

I also found that the new docker-compose was mutilating the text of lines as it was outputting on multiple pulls and leaving a mess of text. Rolling back has fixed everything

I'm having the same issue over SSH to a server running Ubuntu 24.04.3 from multiple clients. When multiple docker images are downloading in response to a 'docker compose pull' and some images finish before others, the text 'Pulling' jitters erratically left and right. The cursor sometimes disappears unexpectedly after the command exits and requires relogging or running reset. When the command exits, sometimes the bash prompt will return to and overwrite the first line of output. Can also confirm that the cursor is sometimes disappearing for me after running 'docker compose logs'.
