This project provides network operations tooling that can be used for both legitimate and harmful purposes. All contributors and users are expected to:
- Use this software only for authorized purposes, including but not limited to: authorized security testing, network administration, research, education, and lab environments
- Obtain proper written authorization before using this tool against any network, system, or service that you do not own or have explicit permission to test
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to: the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and equivalent legislation in your jurisdiction
- Never use this software to intercept, redirect, or capture traffic without the knowledge and consent of all affected parties, except where explicitly authorized by law (e.g., authorized penetration testing, law enforcement with proper legal authority)
- Never contribute code designed to exfiltrate data, establish unauthorized persistence, or bypass security controls in ways not disclosed to end users
- Report any discovered vulnerabilities in this project through the process described in SECURITY.md rather than exploiting them
Failure to adhere to these responsible use requirements may result in removal from the project and, where applicable, referral to appropriate authorities.
Project maintainers are responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.
Project maintainers have the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, wiki edits, issues, and other contributions that are not aligned with this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.
This Code of Conduct applies within all project spaces, including but not limited to:
- The project's source code repository (issues, pull requests, discussions, commit messages, code review comments)
- Project communication channels (mailing lists, chat rooms, forums, social media accounts)
- Project events (meetups, conferences, workshops)
- Any context in which an individual is representing the project or its community, whether online or in person
This Code of Conduct also applies to the use of the software itself. Individuals who use this software in violation of the Responsible Use section above may be excluded from the community and denied access to project resources.
Instances of abusive, harassing, or otherwise unacceptable behavior may be reported to the project maintainers responsible for enforcement at the contact address listed in the project's SECURITY.md file.
All complaints will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly.
All project maintainers are obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident.
Project maintainers will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:
Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed unprofessional or unwelcome in the community.
Consequence: A private, written warning from project maintainers, providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.
Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions.
Consequence: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels like social media. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.
Community Impact: A serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, deliberate introduction of security vulnerabilities, or misrepresentation of software capabilities.
Consequence: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or private interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, is allowed during this period. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.
Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals, deliberate introduction of malicious code, or use of the software for unauthorized or illegal purposes against others.
Consequence: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the project community. All contributed code may be reviewed and, if necessary, reverted.
This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, available at https://www.contributor-covenant.org/version/2/1/code_of_conduct.html.
Community Impact Guidelines were inspired by Mozilla's code of conduct enforcement ladder.
The Responsible Use section is specific to this project and reflects the ethical obligations inherent in security tooling development and distribution.
If you have questions about this Code of Conduct or need clarification on acceptable use, please open a discussion in the project repository or contact the maintainers through the channels listed in SECURITY.md.
