Hardware
- Radio: RadioMaster Boxer
- ELRS TX module: RadioMaster Ranger Micro 2.4 GHz
- VRX: HDZero Goggles 2 built-in ESP32 Backpack
- VTX: HDZero Lux on Happymodel Mobula6
- Aircraft receiver: ELRS
Firmware
- Ranger Micro TX Backpack: 1.5.9
- HDZero Goggles built-in ESP32 Backpack: 1.5.9
- Both Backpack devices have been updated and power-cycled after flashing.
Problem
The aircraft VTX responds correctly to VTX Admin from the ExpressLRS Lua script, but the HDZero goggles do not follow the channel change.
For example:
- Power on Boxer, HDZero Goggles, and Mobula6.
- Open ExpressLRS Lua → VTX Admin.
- Select Band R, Channel 8.
- Select Send VTX.
- The HDZero VTX on the Mobula6 correctly changes to R8.
- The HDZero Goggles remain on their previous channel.
Manually changing the goggles to R8 restores video, confirming that the aircraft VTX did successfully change channels.
Backpack troubleshooting already performed
- Backpack enabled on Ranger Micro.
- Backpack enabled on HDZero Goggles.
- Updated both TX and VRX Backpacks to 1.5.9.
- Confirmed Ranger Micro Backpack Web UI reports 1.5.9.
- Confirmed HDZero built-in ESP32 Backpack Web UI reports 1.5.9.
- Manual Backpack binding completes successfully.
- Also tested firmware generated with the same Backpack binding phrase for TX and VRX.
- Power-cycled devices after firmware updates.
- VTX Admin reliably controls the aircraft VTX.
- Tested Backpack DVR control as an independent test; the goggles do not respond to DVR commands either.
This makes it appear that the normal ELRS → aircraft VTX control path is working, while commands from the Ranger Micro TX Backpack are not reaching or being acted upon by the HDZero Goggles Backpack.
Expected behavior
Using VTX Admin → Send VTX should set both:
- Aircraft VTX to the selected channel
- HDZero Goggles VRX to the same channel
For example, selecting R8 should cause both the HDZero VTX and HDZero Goggles to switch to R8.
Actual behavior
- Aircraft VTX changes channel: Yes
- HDZero Goggles change channel: No
- Backpack DVR control works: No
The goggles can be manually tuned to the new channel and receive the HDZero video normally.
Is there currently a known issue with the RadioMaster Ranger Micro TX Backpack → HDZero Goggles built-in ESP32 Backpack communication path on Backpack 1.5.9, or is there another configuration/binding state I should check?
I can provide additional firmware information, UIDs, logs, screenshots, or perform additional tests if useful.
