High CPU usage in keep alive connections

When a connection is keep alive the main handler consumes a lot of CPU

This could be fixed definitively with correct polling, but with the keep-alive TTL and other fixes, it's mostly mitigated.
With a peak of CPU for around 10s, that should not escalate with more charge.
