Checked both issues: Webview regression (aw-tauri #97): Already closed — the fix landed in ActivityWatch/aw-tauri#99 (switched to experimental runners for Linux AppImage builds). AppImage in this release: The one AppImage ( @ErikBjare — want me to look into why the aw-tauri AppImage is not being included in the release workflow, and open an issue/PR if there is a gap? |

There's an appimage in the tauri .zips in the tauri folder. You can confirm by checking the CI @TimeToBuildBob |

@TimeToBuildBob ActivityWatch/aw-tauri#99 is on aw-tauri repo but this release was made from the parent repo https://github.com/Activitywatch/activitywatch. The build workflow is different, you should update the workflow to match what is in aw-tauri, iirc ubuntu 22 does not work, you will have to use ubuntu 24 for the builds. |

Only the deps, matter, the rest can be kept as is. |

Done. Opened #1311 which pins the same webkit/javascriptcoregtk deps that landed in aw-tauri#99. The parent repo workflow already uses CI is fully green including the On the AppImage distribution gap: the tauri AppImages are bundled inside the zip archives ( |

Could we have an AppImage build for older distributions? As far as I can tell, it was built on Ubuntu 24.04, so it won't run on older systems. |

It should run on older versions. You can test it out yourself.

Nah I think @directentis1 might be right, due to glibc incompat we should probably build on Ubuntu 22.04 if we can, those builds should work more reliably across distro versions. |

@ErikBjare opened #1345 for this. The change is deliberately narrow: build the Linux Qt/AppImage release artifact on I left the Tauri Linux jobs on Also not doing a Flatpak/sandbox route here. The user asked about AppImage compatibility, and the window-title collection concern is a good reason to keep this scoped to the non-sandboxed AppImage packaging path. |

Please tell me this is a joke. I made backups of buckets but forget to make of settings, installed this "update" and now all bucket data and settings are gone of the .13 version? Years of progress just gone? Can you tell me how to restore? I used the windows installer. |

I think this might be due to a database schema migration, should probably warn users about that. The database might show no data during the migration. It should be fast for most users unless they have a really large db or slower processor. |

@TimeToBuildBob how long does the schema migration take on large db? Assume 5 years worth of data, is there any feature to indicate that a migration is in progress? |

The only thing I know that could possibly give the appearance of this is that on first run after update some database migrations are made, which recreates indexes etc. This could take some time (a few minutes maybe max?) on larger databases. It may lead to the server not responding to requests until done (potentially giving the empty data impression), but shouldn't lead to any actual loss of data. If there was real loss, we'd like to know (we haven't seen it) as we are approaching making a stable release. Logs would be the only thing that could definitively answer if anything strange happened at first startup after update. An exact account or description what you saw and at which point would help too. |

Where are helpful logs stored? I unfortnately can't say anymore for 100% if data loss occured or not and honestly don't want to retry now that it finally worked. I checked C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\activitywatch\Logs and C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\activitywatch\activitywatch\Logs and they're either empty, very old or don't contain info which could hint data transfers. Only potential hint I found was this: and lots of those messages for like 5 minutes, no idea what they mean. But I can't remember anymore whether it was while it itself tried to recover buckets or I did something or something else. I remember for sure though that it initially started with only 3 buckets and the settings were set to default. I then used Windows to restore a previous version of the two main ActivityWatch folders which thankfully restored the settings. I had made a backup of the buckets before. |

@0xbrayo Sorry for the slow reply — measured it rather than guessing. Short version: seconds to a few minutes, and no, there's no progress indicator. The only expensive step upgrading a v0.13.x DB is I reproduced the exact migration SQL against the exact v4 schema on synthetic DBs:
Caveats worth stating: this is Python/SQLite running the identical statements, not the actual Rust binary (the work is inside SQLite either way), and it ran on a fast machine — NVMe, Ryzen 9, plenty of RAM. On a spinning disk or a low-RAM laptop, expect meaningfully worse. Note it's superlinear. Up to ~1M events the index build fits in page cache and finishes in about a second. Past that it turns into an external sort and goes I/O-bound — which is why 2.5× the rows costs 10× the time. Typical On progress indication — there is none, and I think that's a real gap. All you get is one log line at the start: The migration runs inside Worth splitting the fix in two, since they're different sizes of change:
