Thanks for the report. I dug into this and found the root cause.

You're running jcode inside herdr, which is an agent multiplexer that sits between jcode and your real terminal. herdr rewrites TERM=xterm-256color in every pane (to avoid leaking the host terminal identity over SSH), so jcode's old detection saw no graphics-capable terminal and silently fell back to the blurry halfblocks renderer. That's the blockiness you're seeing.

jcode-side fix (just landed): jcode now actively probes the terminal for image-protocol support (kitty/sixel) when env-based detection comes up empty, instead of defaulting to halfblocks. This is the right behavior inside herdr/tmux/zellij/screen and any other multiplexer that masks the outer terminal. It will be in the next release.

Important: updating jcode alone won't be enough, because herdr disables graphics rendering by default. To get crisp images you also need to:

1. Run herdr inside a kitty-graphics-capable outer terminal (kitty, Ghostty, or WezTerm).
2. Enable herdr's experimental kitty graphics passthrough in your herdr config:

   [experimental]
   kitty_graphics = true

3. Update jcode to the next release (the auto-probe described above).

With all three in place, jcode's probe will detect kitty graphics through herdr and render images at full resolution. If you're on a terminal without kitty/sixel support, halfblocks remains the expected fallback.

You can confirm what protocol jcode picked in the logs at ~/.jcode/logs/ (look for a Mermaid picker init: line).
